His Eternal Word

We know that God's word is settled forever and stands forever [Psalm 119:89, Isaiah 40:8], but we tend to think of that in a time-forward direction...at least I do.

Earlier in this blog, we have looked at some quantum verses, like Matthew 16:19..."I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven." We've also discussed Hebrews 4 at length...God's works were finished from the foundation of the world and He has rested from His works.

But look at this, speaking of Abraham...

'...and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS," and he was called the friend of God.' [James 2:23]

What's curious about the verse is that, when Abraham fulfilled the scripture [Genesis 15:6], IT WASN'T WRITTEN YET!

Hebrews 7:9,10 is a similar verse: 'And, so to speak, through Abraham even Levi, who received tithes, paid tithes, for he was still in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him."

John 1 says it this way:

'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.'

What Does This Mean?
The Word—ALL OF IT—has always existed, forever settled, even while or before it is being played out in physical reality. That includes everything God has said, backward and forward, about us! Hallelujah!

In fact, the Greek word for 'eternal' is aionios—without beginning and end, THAT WHICH ALWAYS HAS BEEN AND ALWAYS WILL BE, never to cease, everlasting.

This is why 2 Corinthians 1:20 says 'For as many as are the promises of God, in Him they are YES; therefore also through Him is our Amen to the glory of God through us.' Because in God, it is already done—all Scripture is already fulfilled, from the foundation of the world.
